Who won the debate? 5 Catholic takeaways from the Trump-Harris face-off

Vice President Kamala Harris and former President Donald J. Trump met for the first time in a highly anticipated national debate on ABC News last night.

Ms. Harris recently became the Democratic presidential nominee after President Joe Biden unexpectedly left the race earlier this summer. During the debate, she appeared to have the advantage over Mr. Trump, often putting him on the defensive.

Ms. Harris repeatedly managed to steer Mr. Trump off his message by making critical remarks, such as mocking the size of his campaign rallies and pointing out the growing number of Republicans who have endorsed her. She also criticized his reputation with foreign leaders.

“It’s well known that dictators and autocrats want you back as president because they can manipulate you with flattery and favors,” Ms. Harris told Mr. Trump. “This is why so many military leaders who have worked with you have told me you are a disgrace.”

Throughout the debate, the candidates presented contrasting views on various issues, including some that are particularly relevant to Catholics.
